Sterile Membrane Filters

Sterile Membrane Filters

Individually packaged and ready-to-use sterile membranes can be used for colony counting, particle testing, microscopy, and sterility testing. Membrane filters are made of cellulose nitrate, also known as mixed cellulose ester, cellulose acetate, or regenerated cellulose. Choose between individually packaged sterile membranes, gridded or non-gridded, with or without hydrophobic edges.

Sterile, gridded membrane filters are widely used in routine microbiological quality control due to the benefits they provide. Whether individually packed or dispenser-ready, membrane filters are ready to use; each filter is individually packaged, offering the highest level of safety while saving preparation time. Each envelope is marked with the filter identification and lot number.

Membrane filters are available in different pore sizes and in three different material types. Cellulose nitrate filters, also known as mixed cellulose esters, contain a mixture of cellulose nitrate and cellulose acetate; this material ensures effective retention together with high flow rates and optimal colony growth. Cellulose acetate combines high flow rates and thermal stability with very low adsorption characteristics. Various filter colors provide the best possible contrast with colonies for easy and reliable quantification and identification.
